  1. Brown Bag Lunch - History of the Butte Community Concerts Association

    May 24, 2017, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM @ Archives Building

The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will continue its Brown Bag Lunch series on Wednesday, May 24, with a presentation by Jim Driscoll about the history of the Butte Community Concerts Association. Community Concerts emerged in the late 1920s with the decline of Chautauqua lecture tours, traveling minstrel shows, and vaudeville. The national movement weathered the Great Depression and expanded rapidly following WWII. Community Concert Associations brought international musical and dance talent to smaller cities throughout America. Jim and Kay Driscoll each served over twenty years on the BCC board until their retirements last year, and have been concert patrons since 1968. As co-historians, they facilitated the Association's donation of the many decades of records and memorabilia that now form the collection housed at the BSB Archives.
