Building and Code Enforcement

The Building & Code Enforcement Office is responsible for assuring the safety of the public through the proper use of building related codes within the city and county. The office enforces applicable ordinances and regulates building and building matters. Activities include controlling design, construction use, occupancy, and location of all buildings and structures by enforcing codes.

The Code Enforcement Office is also responsible for enforcing international building codes, signs, residential, mechanical, and plumbing codes. It administers the uniform code for abatement of dangerous buildings and approves plans for building and issues building permits.

Appeal of any decision of the enforcing officer pertaining to zoning may be made to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Appeal of any decision of the enforcing office related to building code may be made to the Building Board of Appeals.
