The Clerk and Recorder is an elected position and is responsible for maintaining the official records of the City and County of Butte-Silver Bow and also serves as the government's Chief Election Officer. The Clerk and Recorder processes all vouchers and writes warrants approved by the Council of Commissioners' Finance and Budget Committee.

Birth & Death Records Records for those born in Butte-Silver Bow are housed in the Clerk & Recorder’s Office and date back to approximately the 1890’s. For genealogical research, records older than 29 years are open to the public and can be viewed during our office hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Copies of these records are $.50.
