Reader Series: Butte and the 1918 Influenza Pandemic

Friday, May 24, 2019

Join us on Friday, May 24, at the Historic Clark Chateau as we invite Janelle Olberding to read her new book, Butte and the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. Doors open at 6:30pm, reading begins at 7pm. Light refreshments will be provided, suggested $5 donation. In the last months of 1918, influenza killed approximately two percent of Butte's residents. The influenza pandemic of 1918 also had lasting effects on public health and healthcare systems in Montana and beyond. This book explores why and will illustrate how the pandemic is not just a part of history, but of Butte’s legacy. Janelle M. Olberding is an independent historian, writer, avid reader, part-time educator, and lifelong learner. The Historic Clark Chateau is located at 321 W. Broadway. Please call 565-5600 for more information.
