Jay Fortune Construction of Butte has begun removing the monzonite steps of the Butte-Silver Bow Courthouse. The ten rows of steps must be removed to determine what repairs are necessary to shore up the current foundation and level the stairs when they are replaced over the next few weeks. Construction on the courthouse was completed in 1912. While minor fixes have been made to the stairs over the past century, this will be the most comprehensive repair work to mitigate sinking and water infiltration.
