[ARCHIVED] Emergency Landing at Bert Mooney Airport

PlaneSmall

A small aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Bert Mooney Airport just before 10:00 AM today. Butte-Silver Bow emergency services personnel responded to the airport after the aircraft reported having issues with its landing gear. The two people on board the plane worked diligently to repair the issue but to no avail. They circled the city for approximately one hour to burn off additional fuel. At approximately 9:40 AM the pilot-in-command radioed in to airport operations stating that he was going to bring the plane in for a landing.

Fire and medical crews positioned themselves nearby and waited for the aircraft to touch down. The pilot performed a smooth landing, despite the malfunctioning left landing gear. The plane was steered off the runway and into a safe area. Some minor damage to the plane occurred but fortunately there were no injuries nor any fires resulting from the landing.
