[ARCHIVED] Officers for Butte-Silver Bow Board of Health Elected

UTTE, Mont. – January 8, 2020 – At its Jan. 8, 2020 meeting, the Butte-Silver Bow Board of Health elected officers for 2020. New officers include Ivy Fredrickson, JD, chair; and Lyn Ankelman, EdD, vice chair. Karen Sullivan, health officer for Butte-Silver Bow, serves as the board’s secretary.

Ms. Fredrickson is an environmental attorney based in Butte, while Dr. Ankelman serves as a mental health advocate in the community.

Other members of the board include Commissioner Cindi Shaw, liaison to the board from the county’s Council of Commissioners; Montana Tech professor and department head Julie Hart, PhD; Butte chiropractor Michael Welker, DC; Butte physician Seth Cornell, MD; and Butte dentist Toby Richards, DDS.

The Butte-Silver Bow Board of Health is a seven-member volunteer body that governs the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department. All members are nominated by the Butte-Silver Bow chief executive and confirmed by the Council of Commissioners. Officers are elected by fellow board members.

The Health Department offers a variety of programs that benefit the community, with divisions focused on emergency preparedness and communicable disease prevention and management; community health; environmental health; Superfund; and operations.

“We are grateful to the members of the Board of Health for all of the time they devote to keeping our community safe and healthy,” said Dave Palmer, chief executive.

“The Board of Health plays an integral role in the safety and well-being of all citizens of Butte-Silver Bow,” said Sullivan. “We are fortunate to have such a great team of dedicated citizens to help guide Health Department initiatives.”
