Camp Trailers and RVs as Residences – While we understand the desire to assist a relative or friend during this difficult time, living out of pull-behind camp trailers, RVs, fifth-wheelers, garages, or anything else that is not listed as a permitted dwelling unit, is a violation of the Butte-Silver Bow Zoning Ordinance. Additionally, please be advised that it is unlawful to live out of camp trailers, RVs, or fifth-wheelers while parked on a public right-of-way in Butte-Silver Bow (B-SB Municipal Code 10.52.150).

Sheds and Fencing – Please remember to contact the Butte-Silver Bow Planning Department at (406) 497-6250 BEFORE you erect a fence or place a shed on your property to ensure all zoning requirements are met, and you obtain necessary permits.

New Business Signage – Please ensure that you inquire with the Butte-Silver Bow Planning Department to verify that the sign meets all the requirements of the zoning ordinance and that you obtain all necessary permits BEFORE the sign is put in place.

Dangerous Buildings – If you see a house or building in your neighborhood that presents an immediate threat to public health, safety, or danger to property, please contact the Butte-Silver Bow Community Enrichment Department at (406) 497-5024 as the department can address these buildings under the BSBMC, Chapter 8.14.

Vacant Buildings – If you notice a house or building in your neighborhood that you know has been unoccupied for at least 180 days, please contact Butte-Silver Bow Zoning Enforcement at (406) 497-6253. This will help ensure that any vacant structures are properly mothballed which will further beautify your neighborhood and our city, under the BSBMC, 8.02 and Section, 8.02.040.

Community Decay – Please continue to remove accumulation of rubble, debris junk, or refuse that results in conditions that are indecent, injure health, and upset the scenic value. Continuing to beautify Butte will improve the overall aesthetic of your neighborhood. If you have a complaint, please contact the Butte-Silver Bow Community Enrichment Department at 406-497-5024 as the department will be able to address the BSBMC, Chapter 8.06.

Junk Motor Vehicles – Please contact the Butte-Silver Bow Community Enrichment Department at 406-497-5024 if you see any vehicles that are parked on public right-of-way (street and alley) and fit all of the requirements of a Junk Motor Vehicle (JMV) such as, discarded, wrecked, ruined/inoperable, and expired plates under the State JMV Program, Montana Code Annotated 75-10-501.

Snow Removal – The Butte-Silver Bow Community Enrichment Department wishes to remind all property owners about their snow removal obligations for sidewalks in front of their properties. It is the duty of the property owner to keep the sidewalks in front of, and adjoining the premises, clean and safe for all pedestrians.

All snow must be removed within twenty-four hours after the snowfall occurred. While removing the snow, it cannot be pushed onto adjoining sidewalks. Snow may be moved onto adjoining streets or onto the parkway between the nonintegral curb and the sidewalk but cannot be dumped into the middle of the street. If you fail to remove your snow, the Community Enrichment Department will be able to enforce removal under BSBMC, Chapter 8.12.12.

Butte-Silver Bow has created a program for the elderly and disabled. In order to meet the criteria, the property owner must be 65 years of age, issued a valid mobility handicapped parking permit, and provide written verification of disability as well as documentation that shows the gross annual income at or below one hundred and fifty percent of the federal poverty level.

To generate a complaint in regard to snow removal from sidewalks, or if you would like to sign up or learn more information about the disability program, please contact Zane Gleason at (406) 497-6474, or the main Community Enrichment Office Line at (406) 497-5024.
