[ARCHIVED] A Friendly Reminder to Keep Your Dog on a Leash in Public Spaces

BSB_circle_logo_small_for_web

A friendly reminder from the Butte Silver Bow Animal Services and Parks Department to keep your dog on a leash in public spaces, including all of Butte Silver Bow’s City-County Parks and trail systems. Lately, there seems to be an increase in the number of dog owners who blatantly let their dogs roam free on walking trails when there's clear signage it's an on-leash area. (even if a sign is not posted-All of BSB-city parks are off limits to dogs). Skyline Park is the only dog park that has off-leash areas.

Please be mindful when in public areas, especially where there are on-leash rules in place for a reason. It doesn't matter how confident you are in your dog's ability, or how friendly you think your dog is. As a dog owner, you should be more considerate to fellow members of public and for your dog's safety too.

If you're in an on-leash area, leash your dog. Don't think your dog is extra special or above the rules. It's pretty simple. Abide by on-leash dog rules on walking trails. Not everyone likes dogs or feels comfortable around them. Public spaces are for everyone to use and enjoy, and all should feel safe using them. Don't be a dog when out with your dog.
