[ARCHIVED] Snow Removal

Snow Removal News Flash

The warm weather is coming to an end and the winter months are approaching quickly. The Butte Silver Bow Community Enrichment Department would like to remind everyone while city crews handle the snow and ice removal on the main streets. Property owners and renters are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks on their own properties.

City sidewalks need to be accessible to everyone year-round. Many people in our community rely on sidewalks to get to work, school, errands, appointments and more. Sidewalks that are not cleared of snow and ice are difficult and sometimes dangerous to use. They’re especially challenging for people with limited mobility.

If you do not properly clear your sidewalk of snow and ice you will receive a notice giving 24 hours to have all snow and ice removed. If you have not cleared the sidewalk by the time of our follow up inspection crews will remove the snow and ice that you will receive a bill for.

You’re responsible for the sidewalk throughout the winter not just when it snows. As the temperature changes snow and ice from nearby sidewalks can melt and flow onto your sidewalk then refreeze. It is your responsibility to clear or sand the resulting ice. If you are leaving town, be sure to have someone shoveling while you’re gone. This helps make it look like someone is home as well.

To report a sidewalk not being shoveled or if you have any further questions with regards to snow removal feel free to call Zane Gleason at (406)497-6474
