The Bureau of Land Management’s Dillon Field Office is evaluating a proposal to remove about 2,000 tons of waste dump material about 6 miles south of Virginia City in Alder Gulch. The BLM will accept public comments on the proposal until Sept. 27.
The material will be removed from an unpatented mining claim and patented property, and ultimately hauled to the Golden Sunlight Mine east of Whitehall for final processing.
Although there may be elevated levels of metals in the waste rock, the concentrations do not pose a public health issue, officials say.
