[ARCHIVED] Iconic artists' works featured at Artwalk tonight

An exhibit of works of two 20th century women artists, Frances Senska and Jessie Wilber, opens during Friday's Artwalk at US Bank at Park and Main streets in Uptown Butte.

Frances Senska (1912-2009) and Jessie Wilber (1912-1989) exemplified through their creative endeavors how immersion in the arts could enhance one’s life experience.

Frances Senska (a sculptor, jeweler, printmaker and ceramicist) and Jessie Wilber (a painter, printmaker, and fiber artist) taught courses at MSU in these many art forms to three generations of art students. These two women were practicing ecologists before the term became popular. They wasted nothing: They preserved natural spaces, cultivated much of their food, and searched for natural or abandoned materials to use in their classes. They emphasized care of equipment (potters’ wheels, printmaking materials) to extend its longevity and provide a richer experience for the students using them.
