The Mai Wah Museum, 17 W. Mercury St., will host a free members-only end-of-season “Below The Scenes” tour at 2 p.m. Sunday Sept. 28.
Members will be escorted into the recently cleaned basements and sidewalk vaults at the Mai Wah and Wah Chong Tai. The work shows architectural details – and a few interesting artifacts – that contribute to our understanding of how the spaces were used.
Mai Wah Members will be the first to see these spaces, some revealed clearly for the first time in decades.
Paid members for 2014-15 are eligible to attend, and non-members may join on the day of the event and take the tour. New and renewing memberships after Sept. 1 are valid through the 2015 calendar year.
You can check on your membership status on the web site at http://www.maiwah.org/membership.shtml - bring your membership card or ID!
Reservations are necessary so that we can plan the tours, which go into small spaces. RSVP to Dick Gibson, rigibson@earthlink.net, by Thursday, Sept. 25. Wear sturdy shoes – high heels and open shoes or sandals will not be safe. And there is no heat in our buildings, so dress appropriately. The tour should last less than one hour. Cameras are welcome.
