A Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) coordinator has joined the extension office in Butte, thanks to a federal grant.
Jocelyn Pruitt is based in Butte; however she will hold classes in both Butte-Silver Bow and Anaconda-Deer Lodge Counties.
Butte-Silver Bow has quite a large population of low-income families and residents eligible for SNAP benefits, formerly called Food Stamps.
These classes aim to educate the audience on how to make dollars stretch farther. She will share the knowledge necessary to make healthy choices while at the food bank or grocery store.
Participants may learn how to feed themselves and their families using healthy choices in a traditional class setting. They also will have the opportunity to put this information to action with hands-on meal preparation and taste tests.
Expanding knowledge and use of a variety of heathy foods every day can improve quality of life, even in tough times.
