Thompson Park fall hours have changed according to Forest Service and Butte-Silver Bow officials. Starting in November, gates are closed until May 1, 2015. The public can still use the park area by parking at the entrance gates adjacent to Montana Highway 2.
During the summer a volunteer host assists with the care and maintenance of park facilities. Volunteer groups including AmeriCorps St. Louis, Mile High Back Country Horsemen and Highland Cycling assisted with trail maintenance activities.
Other projects included Troop 1618 Boy Scout Eagle Scout project to paint over the graffiti in the Milwaukee railroad tunnels, construct a rail fence at the trestle and paint entrance and site signs.
