Butte-Silver Bow commissioners agreed to a new three-year operating agreement with Mainstreet Uptown Butte Wednesday night for producing and staging the annual Montana Folk Festival.
The council voted 11-1 for the new pact after several people touted the summer event for its “world class” entertainment and being a major draw for visitors and their dollars to Butte.
Mainstreet Uptown Butte will continue to oversee entertainment, marketing and promotion of the festival while the county will provide possible public dollars as well as staff time and labor to help plan and set-up the event.
“We are the envy of the state with this event,” Tom Staples, president of Mainstreet’s board, told commissioners. “We can’t do it without you. We really appreciate your participation and your commitment.”
