As the gold-hued glow from the stained glass danced on their faces, a crew installed the last few panels of the dome at the Butte courthouse Wednesday.
"It's pretty exciting -- it really is. It's pretty darn exciting," said Pat Holland, county building manager, as he watched the progress.
The Iowa crew has spent the last few days installing the recently restored glass. The project is expected to wrap up this week. Bovard Studio began restoration work in August.
"It was in dire need," Holland added.
Officials had monitored the deterioration of the dome and later placed a net below it while its fate was decided. In July, commissioners agreed to restore the stained glass at a cost of about $200,000. Much of the project cost was covered by money earmarked two years ago for historic preservation.
