The Butte-Silver Bow Community Foundation awarded eight grants totaling $5,000 to area agencies Thursday night at the Chamber of Commerce Business Card Social.
The foundation was started in 1995 by Jim and Margie Thompson, Thompson Distributing, Inc., when they matched a challenge grant from Anheuser-Busch. The eight agencies were selected because of their need and because they fit into the five focus areas of the foundation: Arts and Culture, Basic Human Needs, Economic Development, Education, and Natural Resources and Conservation.
“The grants are simply proof of the generosity of area residents,’’ Margie Thompson said. “By all of us doing what we can do to improve the quality of life in Butte and surrounding areas makes this a very special community in which to live.”
