The Butte area’s white Christmas is going to get a little bit whiter.
A storm system is bringing 1 to 3 inches of snow at lower elevations in the southwestern part of the state later this morning and afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Travelers are warned to expect snow-packed roadways and blowing snow in some areas.
Homestake Pass, east of Butte, is expecting 3 to 6 inches of snow. Lost Trail Pass, south of Missoula, is predicted to get 6 to 10 inches of snow.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect through 11 a.m. Christmas day. Snow will become showery and decrease on Christmas morning.
