[ARCHIVED] Family skating offered at oval; ski conditions noted

Cross-country trails conditions listed
Updated conditions at area cross-country ski trails are provided here, according to the Mile High Nordic Education Foundation.

-- Moulton, north of Walkerville and at the end of Moulton Reservoir Road, all trails are snow-machine packed and rolled. It has received snow since the Dec. 17 grooming. Tracks are set on all trails except Yankee Boy. No fee to ski.

-- At Mount Haggin, 11 miles south of Anaconda on the Mill Creek Highway 569, Crooked John and Sugar Loaf are machine packed and rolled, as of Dec. 24, and it was snowing while the groomers were there. Two feet of snow at the warming hut. The area has 28 kilometers of trails. No fee.

-- Homestake Lodge, 3 miles south of Homestake Pass, 37km of groomed trails. Fees required to ski.

Upcoming: Ski program starts Jan. 3, 406-581-6202. Learn to Ski day is Jan. 10 at Mount Haggin, Jan. 11 at Homestake Lodge and Jan. 31 at Moulton.

Family skating offered at oval in Butte
Public skating and family skate nights are available at the U.S. High Altitude Sports Center ice oval, behind Three Bears Alaska store and off Continental Drive.

It is open for free skating at any time the gate is unlocked. Holiday hours for warming hut, skate rental and concessions will be noon to 5 p.m. daily starting Friday, Dec. 26.
