BUTTE – The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department will be monitoring dry conditions as the Fourth of July approaches. Due to the current and forecasted extremely hot and dry conditions for Southwest Montana, the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department will keep close tabs on potential fire danger and the use and sale of fireworks. Should it be determined that the risk of fire is too high, appropriate measures will be taken to either limit or ban the use or sale of fireworks within county limits. Fire Chief Jeff Miller explains, “due to the hotter than average temperatures forecasted and with no precipitation in sight, we need to consider the safety of our citizens and their property as our primary concern.” There is currently no ban in place; the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department will notify the public immediately should one be necessary. Additionally, Butte-Silver Bow Fire Marshall, John Lasky will be enacting an open burn ban starting July 1, 2015 within county limits.
