BUTTE – The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department is the recipient of an “Assistance to Firefighters” Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Grant amount from FEMA is $62,783.00 with a required 10% match from Butte-Silver Bow.
Fire Chief Jeff Miller submitted the grant application in cooperation with the Firefighters’ Union Wellness Committee as funds to continue and enhance the physical fitness, health, and wellness programs that the Firefighters Union has helped to develop and implement for all career firefighters in Butte-Silver Bow.
“The firefighters in Butte-Silver Bow have taken their health and wellness to a whole new level,” said Fire Chief Jeff Miller, “most of our firefighters have begun participating in a voluntary health and wellness program: including fitness tests, counseling, and nutrition advice to ensure they are in the best shape to perform their duties both physical and mentally. This grant will enable us to continue to improve our physical strength, respiratory ability, and mental awareness. It is a testament to the firefighter in Butte-Silver Bow who want to continue to improve each and every day and keep our community safe.
On the recommendation of Chief Miller, Budget Director Danette Gleason added the potential grant funds to the 2015-2016 budget for approval by the Butte-Silver Bow Council of Commissioners. The Council of Commissioners approved the budget on August 19, 2015.
