In 1992, the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development designated March 22nd as “World Water Day,” an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues. This Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., please join Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive Matt Vincent for some special remarks at the Big Hole Water Treatment Plant. Chief Executive Vincent will be speaking to the importance of clean water and water conservation as well as pledging Butte-Silver Bow’s support for participation in the Wyland Foundation Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, which will run from April 1 – April 30th. The Wyland Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, is a non-profit national community service campaign to inspire residents to reduce water and energy usage.
“Water is the lifeblood of our communities and economies,” said Vincent, “We must come together to bring conservation awareness to the forefront of everything we do. The Mayor’s Challenge is a great and unique way to encourage citizen involvement in this crucial issue. Plus, Butte never loses a challenge and I do not think we will start now.”
The more pledges each community has, the more prizes that community’s residents are eligible to win, including a new Toyota Prius. To pledge your commitment to water conservation, please visit www.mywaterpledge.com and follow the registration instructions. Last year, residents from over 3,600 cities in all 50 U.S. states pledged to reduce their annual consumption of freshwater by 1.4 billion gallons.
