[ARCHIVED] Keep Pets Safe over the Holiday Weekend

The Butte-Silver Bow Animal Services Department would like to remind pet owners to keep their furry friends safe during the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend. Pets are much happier staying home in a quiet, familiar place. Many dogs and cats are fearful of loud noises such as fireworks. Butte-Silver Bow Animal Services recommends that for pet safety and comfort, please keep them in a quiet room with food, water and a TV or radio on to help drown out outside noise.

If extreme noise is a serious concern for your pets, we recommend pet owners consult their veterinarian about possible medications to help them stay calm. Please leave your pets at home for the July 3rd fireworks display and Fourth of July Parade. The combination of noise and people can overwhelm dogs and cats causing them to be unpredictable and frightened.

Be sure your pets are wearing a current collar and ID tag and are up-to-date on their rabies vaccination in case they manage to escape. If your pet does go missing, be sure to contact the Chelsea Bailey Butte Animal Shelter at (406) 497-6528 to file a lost report.

The warm weather is also a health concern for many pets, so keeping them in a cool spot in the house is important. Please never leave a pet in the car during the summer, even with windows open, the car will become extremely hot and dangerous.

Please have a safe and happy Fourth of July Holiday Weekend and contact Butte-Silver Bow Animal Services at (406) 497-6525 if you have any questions or concerns.
